About Model Oncology

Model Oncology partners with community health systems to build and operate sustainable oncology programs. The organization does not function as a conventional consultancy that delivers a strategy and exits, nor as a traditional management services organization administering back-office functions at a distance. Model Oncology embeds directly within each partner organization, operating alongside health system teams and assuming accountability for program outcomes over the long term.

The organization’s work encompasses program design, physician recruitment, clinical research, pharmacy strategy, and the technology and operational infrastructure required for community health systems to deliver high-quality cancer care locally. The through line is clinical and scientific excellence: bringing trials, advanced therapies, and capability normally reserved for academic centers into the communities that need them. Model Oncology holds itself to the standard of a genuine, accountable partner rather than a vendor.

Position Summary

Model Oncology is seeking a Director, Pharmacy Business to support partner health systems in growing and sustaining their pharmacy financial performance. Reporting to the Vice President of Pharmacy Solutions and Strategy, this individual will serve as the pharmacy business and strategy resource for partner sites, translating financial insights into practical, site-level strategies that maximize drug margin while ensuring patient access and quality of care. This role requires deep pharmacy business experience, sharp analytical judgment, and the ability to turn complex reimbursement and pricing dynamics into workable strategies.

Responsibilities

  - Serve as the pharmacy business and strategy resource for partner health systems, advising on enterprise pharmacy financial operations, strategy, reporting, and performance management

  - Build and refine pharmacy business budgets, forecasts, financial models, and return-on-investment analytics that partner sites can adopt and sustain

  - Collaborate with each partner’s pharmacy, finance, supply chain, and clinical leaders to align pharmacy business operations with the system’s strategic priorities

  - Analyze drug spend and trend data for partner sites, identify opportunities for drug expense reduction, and deliver regular financial updates to pharmacy and finance executives

  - Identify and help partners capture new revenue opportunities and build innovative business models that support long-term sustainability and growth

  - Monitor market trends in drug pricing, distribution, reimbursement, and supply chain regulation, and advise partners on how to respond

  - Advise on purchasing strategies that reduce variation, leverage scale, and mitigate the impact of drug shortages

  - Support partner drug revenue cycle integrity and patient financial navigation, helping sites improve charge capture and reimbursement while advancing drug affordability and access for patients

  - Assess and strengthen 340B program integrity at partner sites through alignment with federal and state regulations and each system’s compliance standards

  - Help partners develop and execute enterprise 340B strategy to maximize savings, compliance, patient benefit, and long-term program viability

  - Execute on internal Model Oncology goals and metrics, leading in areas of ownership and partnering in areas where ownership lies with another team

Qualifications

  - PharmD or BS in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy, with an active pharmacist license in good standing

  - Seven (7) years of progressive pharmacy leadership experience in a health system or pharmacy setting, including demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, analytics, or pharmacy business operations

  - Deep experience leading or overseeing pharmacy financial operations, including demonstrated 340B compliance and savings optimization, success leveraging analytics to drive outcomes, and expertise in pharmaceutical contracting and GPO management

  - Strong analytical skills with the ability to build, interpret, and present pharmacy performance dashboards to executive leadership

  - Strong communication and teaching skills, with the ability to engage pharmacy, clinical, and administrative leaders as a peer expert

  - Comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, growing organization with significant latitude and accountability

  - Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field preferred

  - 340B-related certification (e.g., Apexus Certified Expert) preferred
