Firm: Model Oncology

Team: Finance

Location: Nashville, TN

Model Oncology (“MO” or “Company”) partners with health systems to deliver world-class cancer care in every community. Advances in oncology are transforming what’s possible for patients—but access shouldn’t depend on geography. We help regional and community health systems build and strengthen oncology programs with the infrastructure, analytics, and clinical expertise they need to bring cutting-edge care closer to home. We work as an extension of our partners’ teams, providing tailored support—from evidence-based pathways and point-of-care tools to embedded analytics and integrated research capabilities. Our collaborative approach drives sustainable growth while allowing leaders to focus on what matters most: serving their patients and communities. Because excellence in cancer care shouldn’t be the exception. It should be the model.

The Company was founded by a group of executives and investors with unique expertise in oncology care and health system partnerships, having previously founded American Oncology Resources, The US Oncology Network, OneOncology, and Select Medical, with additional executive experiences at Flatiron Health, Evidation Health and Via Oncology.

Summary

MO is expanding its Strategic Finance team, which is responsible for growth initiatives, partnership diligence, new service line pro-formas, market data analysis, new market development, and in-market strategic planning. This role will sit within that broader team but will prioritize supporting MO's pharma insights and analytics efforts, serving as a dedicated finance partner to the Pharmacy team and translating pharmacy domain expertise into financial models and analyses that quantify the value MO delivers to health system partners. While pharma analytics will be the primary focus, the role will also flex into the Strategic Finance team's other responsibilities — including evaluating new health system partnerships, developing new service lines, and identifying growth opportunities through market and competitive analysis. This is a unique opportunity for candidates with pharmacy analytics, GPO/health system consulting, or traditional finance backgrounds to apply their skills at the intersection of oncology strategy and pharmacy economics. We're seeking an experienced, self-motivated professional who can operate independently in ambiguous environments while communicating effectively with stakeholders. The ideal candidate is comfortable voicing opinions, asking strategic questions, and bringing a multi-dimensional analytical skillset to complex business challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Pharma

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to MO’s Pharmacy team, working closely with the VP of Pharmacy Data to translate pharmacy domain expertise into financial models and actionable analyses
  • Model pharmacy procurement program optimization opportunities by assessing whether health systems are fully leveraging available pricing / rebates and quantifying the incremental value MO can deliver through its platform
  • Analyze specialty pharmacy script capture rates, benchmarking current health system performance against expected capture rates to identify and size upside opportunities
  • Build repeatable pharmacy diligence frameworks and analytical tools that can be deployed across new partnership evaluations to assess pharmacy-related value creation
  • Model total cost of care, factoring in supportive care, administration costs, and site-of-care differentials
  • Support ad hoc pharmacy analytics and modeling requests, serving as the Pharmacy team’s go-to finance resource for data-driven decision support

Growth Enablement

  • Identify and evaluate service line expansion opportunities for partner health systems
  • Conduct market assessments for de novo site expansion and competitive intelligence gathering
  • Support opportunity qualification, segmentation and strategic planning for cancer program growth initiatives

Strategic Finance & Analysis

  • Support financial due diligence for new health system partnerships, analyzing financial statements and operational data to identify opportunities, risks, and value drivers
  • Develop transparent, well-structured financial models for new service lines from the ground up — incorporating clearly documented assumptions, logical build architecture, and audit-ready formatting that enables efficient review by leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare investment thesis materials for executive leadership and board presentations
  • Coordinate meetings with health system leadership and manage multiple engagements effectively

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance, economics, healthcare administration, health informatics, data analytics, data science, or pharmaceutical science
  • 1-5 years of experience in one or more of the following: management consulting, investment banking, strategic finance, pharmacy analytics/consulting, or healthcare advisory services
  • Highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with SQL or working with large healthcare datasets is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently
  • Ability to analyze information from various data sources into concise messages for senior leaders
  • Highly organized and able to manage multi-workstream due diligence processes across concurrent partnership opportunities
  • Motivated and effective in a fast-paced culture
  • Thrives in a self-starter environment with lots of freedom within a framework
  • Strong references demonstrating impact in analytical or strategic roles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare experience (340B, contribution margin analysis, tumor registry data, payer mix)
  • Experience in pharmacy data analytics, drug spend analysis, specialty pharmacy operations, or pharmacy consulting within a GPO, health system, or healthcare services organization
  • Prior experience at a GPO (e.g., Vizient, Premier), specialty pharmacy platform (e.g., Shields, PharMerica), pharmacy benefit consultancy, 340B operations support firm (e.g., Apexus, Cooper Strategy), or healthcare-focused advisory firm is highly valued
  • Experience building financial models around drug pricing, rebate optimization, 340B program economics, or specialty pharmacy capture rate analysis
  • Familiarity with oncology drug pipeline, emerging therapies (including biosimilar adoption and its financial impact), and healthcare policy implications and how each impacts financial and operational planning demands
  • Experience with healthcare or pharmacy-specific business strategy, or working knowledge of health system financial operations
